Sally Ledgerwood, LMP, Reiki Master
The pathway to massage and healing has been a wandering one for me. I came to Reiki through the health of my best friend's husband. He was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and given 6 months to live. That was in 1979 and he is going strong today. He choose alternative medicine, nutrition and energy work for his healing, and as I watched him improve, I knew there was a strong message there and I took my first degree Reiki course in 1980 to be able to experience and share this powerful healing modality. Several moves, several jobs and many years later, I ended up back where I had grown up in Eastern Washington. Twelve years in the corporate world had left my health effected by stress in a negative way. I met a fellow professional during that time that gave me my second degree in Reiki. A massage gift certificate led me to an amazing woman who planted the seed for a new direction in my life — massage.

I “dropped out” and went to massage school at the East West College of the Healing Arts (www.ewcha.com) in Portland, Oregon where I studied Eastern modalities as well as Swedish and treatment massage plus additional energy work. I also took my Master Level of Reiki during that time and began teaching Reiki to my fellow students. Energy work is a natural with massage and I love sharing through hands-on as well as teaching. I look to give each client a deeply relaxing experience in addition to addressing any specific issues. I use a variety of modalities through a session and through continuing education classes, continue to add to my knowledge and skills.

I taught massage at Whatcom Community College for two years, helping them to start-up their new massage program and develop it from the ground up. That was fun! I also had my own private massage practice in Bellingham for four years before I purchased Green Touch in April 2004. Here I have found a place for many of my skills from all those jobs - Business, Human Resources Management, retail and of course, massage and Reiki. I have found my home. My desire is that Green Touch be a center for health and healing, as well as education about both. I would like the center to serve the local massage community and support them as well as serving our clients, friends and families.

Bruno deAlmeida, LMP
After learning at the Utah College of Massage in Salt Lake City, I am now in my tenth adventurous year of massage and body therapy.  Toucan Sam says to “follow your nose — it always knows”, and mine has led me to Bellingham, Washington and here to Green Touch, a mindful establishment I feel grateful to be a part of.

Being in the constant state of amazement at the mysteries of life and this experience we call the body, I always feel so very humbled to work with it all as closely as I do.  The self-assured technical approach to health and the human is always in flux with the mysteriously intuitive and non-linear reality in which we live.  Working in body therapy invites an exploration upon that sacred terrain of human experience.  I am honored and delighted to have been invited.  After all, each person is like an entire world, and massage can help two worlds to meet one another halfway.  To me, that is beautiful.

I graduated from WWU in the summer of 1996 with a degree in Sociology and English.  Afterwards I worked various jobs saving money for massage school, which I’d wanted to do all along (but promised my dad I’d get a conventional degree first).  Graduating from Spectrum Center School of Massage in Lake Stevens in the summer of 1999, I started up my own practice and immediately got certified in pregnancy massage.  My goal at the time was to work in conjunction with my midwife sister in Seattle , and I started offering labor support to my pregnant clients (seeing my first births!); she could never move north though, and I couldn’t seem to leave Bellingham , where my family has now resided for 10 years.  I still love working with pregnant women, especially after having two children of my own.  I closed my practice after my daughter (now almost three) was born. I came to work for Green Touch when I was three months pregnant with my son. After he was born, I took 11 months off. It’s great to be back!  My massage is geared as closely to each client’s needs as possible, incorporating techniques mostly from Swedish, Sports, and Deep Tissue, intending to give each body a deep, relaxing and nurturing experience.

Tamara Stone, LMP
I graduated from the Bellevue Massage School and I offer relaxation, pregnancy massage, myofacial release and craniosacral work. And, because I know how good hot stone massage feels, especially on cooler days, I offer that too.

I am refining by modalities down to be primarily practicing John Barnes technique of Myofascial Release. This very effective technique provides sustained pressure into myofacial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore movement. It is not a deep tissue modality in the sense of applying deep pressure, but it is a deep release technique. The elimination of fearful behaviors, compulsions and anxiety attacks is also possible . I am certified by John Barnes, P.T., in Myofascial Unwinding and Myofascial Release I and II. For more information on this technique and how it could help you as a client, please visit this website: www.myofacialrelease.com. Because this is such a different technique than the muscle manipulation of a regular massage, it is important to me that clients understand the process-what it can do and how it is performed.

I've been here in Whatcom County for the past 31 years, after growing up on Orcas Island. I was a florist for 20 plus years, but decided to go back to school after my two sons were raised. Port Townsend School of Massage offered a weekend course, and even though it took me 15 months to finish, it was a wonderful experience. It's amazing to finally figure out "what you want to be when you grow up" at nearly 50 years old! I graduated in December of 2005 and went to work for Ellen Shea, part time, at Whisper on the Bay in Birch Bay the following April. I was with her until the spa unfortunately closed last December.

Luckily, Sally asked me to join her team in January, and I find working here is a great fit! My philosophy of massage is that if I can get the body to truly relax, it will begin to heal itself. Therefore, I feel my strengths in massage lean towards the relaxation modalities. Swedish, Hot Stone and some energy work. I look forward to continuing to expand my skills along these lines.

Katy Campbell, LMP
I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and “temporarily” moved to Washington 8 years ago to attend my sister’s wedding and complete my Bachelor’s degree in French. I have lived in other areas and traveled extensively, but moving to Bellingham opened up new doors for me: I met my wonderful husband here, and fell in love with the area as well!

However, I found myself continuing to search for a meaningful career helping others. Always a caring, active individual, in 2004 I channeled my energies toward attending Port Townsend School of Massage and graduated filled with excitement and ideas for my new vocation. Now several years into my calling as a massage professional, I find myself thrilled each time I share in a person’s healing process, whether they simply need to de-stress or are searching for relief from a chronic condition.

After coaching at my sister’s side through her three healthy deliveries, my husband and I brought our own beautiful spitfire of a little girl into the world in February 2008. This life-changing experience has refreshed my interest in pregnancy and postpartum massage; I feel myself connecting even more with each budding mommy I am blessed to meet. Now I understand just how wonderful pregnancy massage can feel! Thus, in the next year I hope to expand my training in pregnancy and postpartum massage, and include fertility, labor, and infant massage as well. In addition to pregnancy massage, I am trained in Swedish, Hot Stone, Deep Tissue, and Sports Massage. I am also a Level I Reiki practitioner, which helps me focus and bring healing energy into each massage session. Since we are all individuals, my touch is personalized for each person’s physical and emotional needs, and though I’m still relatively new to the field I bring genuine compassion, knowledge, and enthusiasm to each body and mind. As part of my transition into motherhood, I now work part-time, and I look forward to meeting you!

Heather Small, LMP
As I have followed my heart's' calling, I have been led through several careers and eventually, with gratitude and no small measure of relief, to bodywork. I received my Reiki levels I and II attunements in Bellingham in 2004. I completed my massage, meditation and energy activation training in Asheville, North Carolina in 2007.

To heal means, literally, "to make whole". My life has shown me that true healing takes place not just in the physical body, but throughout the whole person; including the physical form, the mind and emotions, and also the soul. No one part of a person's being can be separated from the whole.

In awe I have experienced, and continue to experience, the increasing joy, ease, harmony and well-being that result from a developing sense of wholeness, or in another word, from healing. Focused, intentional massage and energy work can and often do lead to that greater sense of wholeness, through the releasing of restrictions and the clearing of blockages on all levels of being. This is GOOD stuff! We truly can create real and lasting positive change for ourselves, in all areas of our lives!

I find such joy in bringing this work to others, with all its marvelous potential for helping us to reach OUR great potential! It is my honor and privelege in these tumultuous times to hold for other human beings a quiet, grounded, safe and sacred space. It is my intention to use massage and energy work to help others, and myself, achieve an ever greater experience of wholeness. I am blessed to be doing work which allows me to acknowledge and encourage our perfectly unfolding experience of true health.
